As far as I know the Magnussen-Moss Act prevents a manufactured from predicating warranty coverage based on *brand name* of service products/parts. If I'm correct....and I pretty sure that I am....then any oil meeting Jaguar specification would be OK, regardless of brand name.
I am not experienced with modern Jag engines but I'm hard pressed to think that type/brand of motor oil caused a timing chain failure. I'm also hard pressed to think that emergency evasive maneuvering was related to the failure. It just doesn't sound right to me.
All academic, though, since you are out of warranty. Anything Jaguar did at this point would be on a "goodwill" basis....and obviously they are not obligated to go down that road.
*Personally* I think it *would* be appropriate ...and good business....for Jaguar to offer some sort of goodwill assistance but even if they agreed to a 50-50 split you're still left with a $17000 repair
Cheers
