1989 XJ-S Conv Just aquired this Jag and it had not been driven for two years. After driving 70 miles it started coughing as if running out of fuel. It was dark and I was home so waited until morning to look things over. Checked fuel filter and it was clear. The car started and ran fine for another 70 miles and then started coughing again!! I checked the fuel pressure and it reads 22psi engine running. When I remove the vacuum hose from the right pressure regulator the pressure goes up to 30? When I remove it from the left it stays at 22. Do not know which pressure regulator to change or both? The pump seems to work fine.
Also, the timing was set at Calif. specs 4ATDC. I set it at 10BTDC per the book. Now the idle will not come down to 750. Have checked for vacuum leaks.
The manuals that I have seem to leave a lot out when it comes to this 89 model. Would appreciate any help on these problems. Thank you from this novice Jag owner......
