I'm with Joey on this one. Unless there is almost no mileage on the car (Under 20K miles ), take the engine out , take the head off and disassemble the block, send the head out to have the valves done, measure the cylinders and have the block bored , the crank ground, the timing chains replaced, new pistons and rings , mains and rod bearings for the crank. Set up the valve clearances after . Paint the block with engine enamel of your favourite colour, Paint the manifolds and air cleaner, and the rad tank . Make it a brand new engine that will never need attention again . I did this to my Austin Healey 100 , 3 liter four banger when I was 19 . I drove that car to California and back via Vancouver , then for eight years of fun and a few competitions in which it fared well. It was a great project that I did while attending my first year of university.
