I am the proud new owner of a 1986 XJSC. The radio worked until we got a cassette tape stuck in it. We finally got the tape out, but now the radio doesn't work at all.

Being a new Jaguar owner, I am not sure where to go first. Would I take the radio somewhere for repair? Can I buy a new Jaguar radio for it? Does it affect originality if I upgrade the radio?

If you are concerned about keeping a vehicle original to factor specs then attempt to have it repaired. If you are not sure then keep the original system in your possession but install a new radio....BUT (sorry for yelling) Do not cut the wires!

If a connector is commercially available then buy it to connect to your modern system. If it isn't then invest in it through a custom supplier. That is, if you want to have modern sound but be able to more easily change back to an original system.

Hi, as Doug said the fuses are in the centre console area, real pain as everything is so tight in there. there are tons of used ones at wreckers for sale also, I even have a very good one out of "Silver" it is a unit made in Japan , so it is very good, and was quite advanced for its year 1983. Art

First check the fuses----which are buried under the panel of the center console.

If the radio *is* kapoot there are indeed radio shops out there who can repair it....check in "Hemmings Motor News" and you'll have many to choose from.

A non-authentic radio will affect originality, of course. Whether or not this is an issue worth considering depends on many factors.....
