Hi, everyone. I'm new to the forum. I have a question or two that I hope someone here might be able to help me with. I've recently come into possession of two Jaguars, a Mk IX and a 1970s era XJ7 (unsure of exact year on both). I'm hoping to sell them, but I'm really unsure as to how much to ask for them as-is. If you guys could take a look at some pics I took of them and give me some advice as to asking price, possible cost of restoration on the Mk IX, and maybe the years they were manufactured, I would greatly appreciate it. Just ballpark estimates ... any info at all would be helpful. Thanks.

Rich

Hello, well if an Australians [ soon to be New Mexico resident ]opinion is of interest I sadly have to agree.
Possibily the Mark IX could be used as the base for a two seat special & unfortunately the XJ6 is beyond salvage, I've personaly seen better XJ6's here in Australia registered running for less than $2,000

I agree; the Mark IX was a beautiful saloon and very elegant. Too bad they are not in demand in the present-day market. But that could be a good thing as well. Since they are not in big demand, you could pick one up in relatively good condition for not much money.

PS: But before you have it hauled off, be sure to remove all the little switches, knobs, the radio, door handles, and other little chrome bits and pieces that will come off easily. Put all these in a box and save them for 10-20 years. Then you'll have a little treasure trove of Mark 9 goodies that will be worth something to someone. And don't forget about the leaper on the bonnet (hood)!

Thanks for the candid replies, guys. I can't say I'm surprised to hear it. It's a shame about the Mk IX, especially. Breaks my heart that it was just left to ruin. Market value aside, it was a beautiful car in its heyday, and it makes me sad to see what it's become.

i agree with patrick, i doubt there is much to salvage on any of these cars.

problem is that restoring a MArk IX or an XJ6 cost as much as restoring an E-type or XK120/150 ... and their value is nowhere near the value of an E-type. in either cas, restoration could easily top 50k ... for a car that even fully restored will not fetch more than .. guessing.. 20 to 25k for the mark IX, and 10 to 15k for the XJ6

these are just rough numbers... obviously a concours perfect MarkIX may fetch more... but woudl also cost more than 50k to complete...

i even doubt anyone would buy these on e-bay as there seem to be very few parts to salvage. the cost of hauling them out maybe more than they're worth.

Mark IX was built from roughly 1958 to 1961 (+/- a year...) the XJ6 looks like a series 2, 1973-1979

My opinion only, but both are JUNK. No one in their right mind would attempt to restore either of these. You should put them on EBay as parts cars (as-is, where-is), and just take any offer you can get. Had someone taken the trouble to at least put a cover or tarp over these cars when they were first parked, you might have something, but as usual for salvage yards, they sat exposed to the elements for decades until they have turned to crap, now worth only for scrap steel.

Good luck
