The Series II judging guide lists Grey Hammeerite #9764 as the correct color. I've checked the Hammerite web site and they don't seem to make that color anymore. Does anyone have an alternative brand and color code they would share?

Thanks all. Ask my wife about authenticity and how I dragged her all over town looking for paint to match the right color for the diff.

Since you brought it up Patrick. It's actually it is pretty much authentic except for:

Radiator fans,
AC compressor
Triple SU's
Jet hot coated exhaust Manifolds
Removed side marker lights
6" daytons and 205-70 tires
Newish radio
15" steering wheel.
Series III XJ 6 filter head.

All easily changed in an afternoon if I ever wanted to show in Championship Class.

Gee....relax Stew!! I stand corrected by George's post, and I too realize the difference in shades for the motors, air filters, and header tanks. Yes, the oil canister is hammertone green, but John didn't ask about that. Okay, okay...I was wrong and should have been more thoughtful in my post.

I know John's car and you don't. It is a very fine Series 2 2+2, but has high-perfomance items all over it. With respect to John, it's not like he is jumping to Champ class authenticity, though I admire his wanting to be authentic with colors.
Jeez!

John,
Sorry for the late reply, but after reading PatrickÔÇÖs post it took 2-days for me to get my blood pressure back under control. George, Hammerite?« did change their numbers ÔÇô without a vote of the delegates to the AGM, the %@#s (Hammerite?«, not the delegates). And George, there are three (3) colors under there (glad to see youÔÇÖre joining the ranks of the senile, like the rest of us!!!! ´üè

The new Hammerite colors are as follows:

41145 Hammered Gray ÔÇô Windscreen and fan motors
41175 Hammered Mid Green ÔÇô Oil filter canister
43105 Hammered Silver Gray ÔÇô Air filter canister and plenum

Rust-oleum?« also produces hammer tone paints, but I havenÔÇÖt used any of these.

This all makes perfect sense considering these components came from three (3) different manufacturers:

Windscreen and fan motors ÔÇô Joseph Lucas, Ltd.
Oil filter canister ÔÇô Tecalemit, Ltd.
Air filter canister and plenum - Canister and Plenum, Ltd. ´üè

Of special note, Stu Jones sent me a Series 3 oil canister and the end area protected by the large washer was blue hammer tone rather than mid green (I lost the picture I took of it when my system crashed last year). The uncovered exposed area was definitely mid green or a ÔÇ£blue-greenÔÇØ. The blue must fad to green over time. IÔÇÖd expect this might be the case with the Series 2s and 1s, but have no evidence to prove it. I personally would not deduct for a bluish hammer tone oil filter canister on any e-type.

Well, I didn't find any grey other than silver grey last night. Today I found a Grey here:

http://www.hammeriteproducts.com.au/colour.aspx.

Is that the right shade of grey? It's item number is 43145, different than what is in the judging manual. i'd prefer to get it right the first time, hence my question.

Matching what I have now is not an option since it's currently black. :-)

John: It's been my experience that grey Hammertone comes in many shades (as you well know). Your best bet would be to remove the motor (yes, a major pain in the rear) and go match it with color chips at an auto paint store. Failing that, I think it's probably more important that all hammertone pieces under the bonnet are the same, meaning just spray them all with the new shade.
