I just completed rebuilding my power steering rack, tower, and pump. I have a question about the inner tie rods (replaced the outer tie rod ends). I'm thinking that they should be able to move freely but somewhat firm (able to support their own weight at least) once tightened back onto the rack. Does anyone have any knowledge of this? I have some shims, but the repair manual doesn't mention any use of them, nor does it mention how freely the inner tie rod should move. There really isn't any play, but I can easily move them around and they definitely don't support their own weight.
