At the 2011 AGM, just prior to the Jaguar Club of Central Arizona offering to host the AGM the weekend of March 10, 2012, Tom Krefetz, speaking on behalf of a conglomeration of SoCal clubs suggested that the 2012 Western States be held in conjunction with the Desert Classic Concours in Palm Desert, CA (near Palm Springs).

Although the date hasn't been set, historically it has fallen on the last weekend in February, in this case 2/25-26. There are other events scheduled the preceding days, like vintage races tours, and perhaps our JCNA Slalom and Rally would be incorporated.

As JCCA had planned the AGM as a "Vacation in Paradise" for everyone in the northlands to get out of the yucky winter weather, this seems like a perfect fit. I figured that if the two events are a few weeks apart, people will have to choose between one or the other. If they are only a week apart, I theorized that more people would attend both. We are also considering holding our concours the Sunday following the AGM,

My questions, for anyone who feels like answering is:

If the AGM was held on the weekend following the Western States Meet, vs. two or three weeks later, would you be

a) more likely
b) less likely
c) equally likely (no difference)

to attend the AGM?

If there was a concours the Sunday following the AGM, would you be

a) more likely
b) less likely
c) equally likely (no difference)

to attend the AGM?

Thanks, your answers will help us plan a great event.

Mark as I said--and will again--you need to talk/ read e mail from the SEC. If not call me at 888-258-2524 x3 and we can discuss it. Like said I do not drive the bus!

Not to muddy the waters, but, my garage is free this weekend and there is plenty of parking and beer. The Inn is always open.....................Don

George,

Where are you getting a February AGM date out of this? Are you reading my posts? There is nothing in any of them that indicates we are holding the AGM before 3/1.

I quote, "The AGM host hotel, the Crown Plaza San Marcos, is available the weekends of both 3/3 and 3/10." Again, quoting myself, "Put more concretely, will Western States 2012 attendees be more likely to attend that on 2/25 -and- the AGM 3/3 and vice versa, compared to having the AGM 3/10?"

The only thing that would be in February is Western States 2012, but I have nothing to do with organizing that. If there is a problem with that, you need to be talking to the organizers of WS12. The AGM is not part of WS12, nor will it be held at the same time as WS12. (Perhaps that's the part I didn't make clear, but I thought it was.) Again, the question is, if WS12 is 2/25 will more people attend both if the AGM is the following weekend 3/3 vs. two weeks after on 3/10?

(It didn't seem like such a difficult question when I wrote it.) ;-)

I'm only posting this here to clear up any misunderstanding anyone else might have about the possible dates of the AGM. To repeat: the two possible dates for the AGM are 3/3/12 and 3/10/12.

sounds like a no brainer, two or three events all together are more worthwhile attending that traveling back and forth for one...........

Mark you should have rec. an e mail from the Sec. The point is you are talking about a date in Feb. (although you say a date has not been set).

Not premature. We might as well find out if there's any interest before we get into the logistics. Although not set, the Desert Classic Concours is historically the last weekend of February, 2/25 this year. Potentially that's the date of the 2012 Western States. The AGM host hotel, the Crown Plaza San Marcos, is available the weekends of both 3/3 and 3/10. All I'm asking is, what will be the effect on attendance at both if we have them one week vs. two weeks apart? Put more concretely, will Western States 2012 attendees be more likely to attend that on 2/25 -and- the AGM 3/3 and vice versa, compared to having the AGM 3/10? If we decide to have our concours 3/4 will that boost participation even further compared to 3/11?

If we have 20 additional people say they would attend both if they were held a week apart, who wouldn't attend both if they were two weeks apart, then we can discuss any scheduling issues having them a week apart. If it makes little or no difference to attendance, then why waste a couple weeks or a month sending e-mail back and forth discussing it.

Since the WS12 dates haven't been set, the question is purely hypothetical at this point, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't get feedback. One of the things that's improved about JCNA in recent years is finding out what the 6000 members want. It's not as top-down as it used to be. Nevertheless, I think there's still room for improvement when it comes to polling members, at least the active ones.

Yes, we have to work within the parameters of the By-Laws, but where we have flexibility and when we might boost participation by giving the members what they prefer, I think we should ask for their input. Who knows, if we find out what members want and provide it, maybe we'll get to 7000 members or even more.

BTW, for anyone who's interested, the mileage door-to-door from the La Quinta Resort in La Quinta, CA to the Crown Plaza San Marcos in Chandler, AZ is 275. According to my mapping software, the trip will take 4 hours, 2 minutes. If we can schedule the two events a week apart, I'd put together a 2-3 day drive for those who want to get their cars (be they Jaguars or rentals) out on the road to see some of the beautiful SoCal and Arizona landmarks (Grand Canyon, Rt. 66, Oak Creek Canyon, etc. weather permitting.)

Mark--i think you need to check with the Secretary. I think your moving it back would cause serious issues with the schedule and possibly the bylaws. We just changed a lot of that but to put it out here for discussion now is pre mature! Call Steve.

The idea of having several things to do in the same time zone probably would be a good idea, esp in Feb when the Northwesteners need some sunshine...........AGM, Concour, Slalom, sounds like a good idea, and also not a million miles away ..........
