I know this may be an old oft reviewed topic, but since I have only been a member for a year or so,
I will risk the wrath of the more senior members by asking it to be raised once more:
I have had over heating problems with my E-type . I have tried cleaning out the rad. The two fans work
]all the time and still the needle goes up into the extreme position each time I drive it in the city.
I would hate to see what would happen in rush hour traffic... I have a new thermostat and will try it out
tomorrow, but I suspect there is some other reason. I am considering taking it to a rad shop to see if they
can improve on the condition of the rad. Any experiences which may be of help in my quest to lower the
temperature of city driving?

As a new 1971 Series 3 E-type FHC V12 owner I'm a bit late to this discussion, and I hope you have solved your overheating problems. I had a similar problem with the needle reaching up into the red; however, when I turned on the heater fan, the needle quickly retuned to normal. It was an electrical problem, not a thermal one. Turns out the little instrument voltage regulator on the backside of the fold-down instrument panel was both bad and wired incorrectly. The new regulator solved both the temp gauge problem as well as a gas gauge irregularity.

Thanks,Ferman:
My '71 is a 6 cylinder, but the over heating could be similar. I have had some trouble with the gauges and wiring.
I have 43K miles on my car and it really does get hot (boils out a bit after stopping) and there is no mistaking real heat. I'm going to have the rad redone. but you have a new aluminum rad, so you should have no problems cooling.

Thanks David. I will try to find the Kool Kat fans and order a pair for the E. Joey has made numerous
suggestions which I will try. It's getting cold here (32F at night) , so cooling is less of a problem.
However, I will pursue it as soon as I can. I am enjoying driving the E downtown at night since there is
very light traffic and I can really use the torque and speed to get around the Slow Pokes. I am slowing
down some as the cops here just LOVE to stop an E-type . It corners SOO well , however , I find it hard
to resist taking the slo mo's on the long corners.

Hey!You really DO drive that E-type ! Third time around! How many times have you rebuilt the engine?
It must have been done at least twice by now.. And tires! OMG!!! I hope you're going to your Mom's for
Thanksgiving . My Mom died a couple of years ago at 98. She was always good for Thanksgiving , however..
