Dear Jaguar-specialists,

Excuse my orthographic errors, my English is already rusted.
Since at the European jaguar clubs nobody me could help, I turned to you as a jaguar specialist. I am from Austria and have few questions to the topic concerning tool and a vehicle equipment for Jaguar E-type.

I possess a Jaguar XKE, Series 1, 2+2 (year of construction 1966), chassis number 1E76757BW. Already for a long time I am in the search for the correct, the year of construction adapted tools and equipment for my vehicle. The jaguar specialists in Europe I asked are however divided opinion which the tool and the jacking equipment for my vehicle concerns.

One Opinion is that at E-type 2+2 was used the 1966 the same tools as it in the MK2 was provided, thus in a black sheet metal wood box into foam material the individual tools etc. were inserted.

Others again mean that this cartridge only was used in very early models and already 1966 a tool role a tool roll was used.

A further topic concerns the jacking equipment. Opinions divided here also. The one say that with the series 1 jacking equipment was used with that the lever was fixed at the jacking equipment attached, others again say that already 1966 jacking equipment thereby was with that the ratchet could separately be attached.

Can you tell me what is the correct tool and jack for my car? I added the photos (1. pic in this thread - others in seperate answers) of the tools and the jacking equipment those enclosed to be applicable.

Further I am to be provided about a history for my vehicle, which however is very difficult, since I get neither from Jaguar Great Britain nor from Jaguar in the USA information. I only know that my vehicle was delivered to Jaguar New York in June 1966. I bought it 2003 from a man from Minneapolis St. Paul. Where the vehicle has been in the meantime and/or who the first owner was I couldn??t find out. Do you know any addresses or specialist who could give me the informations about the history of my car?

Regards, Gerhard

George is right on the spot. The jacking handle should be permanantly attached to the jacking screw. On OTS cars, the lifting pad is square to mate with a similar shape on the underside of the body. If you look at your car, you should have pins instead, in which case, the lifting head slips onto these pins. Both in both instances, the jack handle does not separate. The handle is separate for S-2 cars.

Also, the adjustable wrench should be more "round" at the halves than the one you have. This and the pair of pliers are usually missing in kits.

If you store your kit inside, then this may not be an issue, but if you keep it in the car, you should consider spreading a thin film of oil otherwise they will start to rust and discolor the tool pouch. Place a piece of plastic behind the tools (between tools and fabric) and of enough width to fold over the front of the tools before rolling up. Yeah, I know, this is a bit extreme.

By the way, I would personally never lift an E-Type using the jacking points unless under emergency.

Hello George!

Thanks for the quick answer, that was a real large assistance! I still don??t have a handbook for my 2+2 and so didn??t have the oportunity to check these information. I did not know that there are such large differences between the jacking equipment and that the jack for the FHC couldn??t be used for the 2+2 - however now it appears logically to me if I look more exactly. Thank you for the competent expert information. Nice holidays and a happy new year for you too!!

Thanks again for the information and greetings from cold, snow-covered Austria

Gerhard

Hi Gerhard.!!!! Your tool kit should be the roll. The "E" was never produced with a box with the exception of a few pre production/show cars. The parts manuals and bulletins are clear that production cars had rolls but some of the tools in your roll picture should be verified if you are looking for 100% accuracy. The tire valve extractor should be checked as you have the yellow plastic one and it is possible your car would have had brass. The 4in adjustable wrench just does not look right in the picture but it could be the picture. As far as the jack goes the 2+2 was not jacked like the FHC or OTS. The picture with the removable handle has a jack pad square which will not work with the 2+2 but the attached handle jack pictured sems to have a slot for the 2+2 jack peg. If so that is correct and you can verify it by looking at the owners handbook (E/131/5) on page 22 or by looking at the addendum page inserted in the Suppliment for the 2+2 handbook (E/134). In all cases the attached handle is pictured and this is for the 2+2 only and was not simply a reprint of instructions from another year (which Jaguar was known to do). Happy holidays and hope this helps. As to the handbook and history of your car the handbook can be purchased on this site and the archives can provide you a build sheet certificate. As to other owners that will be a real challenge due to privacy laws and old records not having been retained. Best of luck!
