Gentlemen,

As my Dad was restoring the 120 in my avatar pic, some of the old parts got stashed in the crawlspace under his house. He now needs to clean that stuff out.

So we're wondering if they have any value at all, not how much, and if they're worth saving, or if they should just be scrapped. There are things like (by no means a complete list here) the original fuel tank, old rims (no hubs or spokes), and old Pirelli tires (old when Dad bought the car in 1981).

I think there's a bunch of other bits, too. Just wondering how much effort should be expended saving this stuff.

One more thing - unrelated to Dad's saved parts, I also have an early (I think) water pump, one with the bearing grease nipple, but it's in pretty lousy shape. Does this have any value - even if only as a core for rebuild?

Advice/opinions welcome.

Thanks!

First pic - the plug wires were in service as recently as a couple of years ago. I believe they are perfectly suitable for use (if not concours perfect). The exhaust manifold has a bolt broken off of the output flange. The fusebox cover and clutch release bearing yoke are in very good condition.

Second pic - I only know what a couple of these brackets actually are. Caveat emptor.

Third pic - yes, it's pretty beat up and the wood framework is broken in a couple of places. But there are also several replacement wood pieces. More detail shots in the dropbox folder.

Thanks.

JCNA-ers,

I have finally gotten all these old parts photographed, though in the spirit of laziness, some of the "smalls" are photographed in groups, as in the attached pic.

I have all the pics in a dropbox folder and will happily send anyone interested an invite to the folder to take a look (Keith, I'll send you an invite right away). I'll post a couple more samples after this message.

As I said at the top, I'm not looking to retire from these parts, just hope to save them from the scrap heap. If you see something interesting, make me an offer - very unlikely that I'd refuse.

BTW - I'm no expert, but I do think there a couple of small gems hidden here. "Or I could be completely wrong.."

Thanks very much.

Howard,

Thanks very much for your comments, your points are well taken.

However, I fear I may not have been clear in my meaning WRT these old parts. I see them as part of the cars "history", so do not want to just "throw them away" - but if they could be of use to someone restoring another car..... So, my thoughts for these parts I mentioned specifically:

- Rims. Available new (yes?), so probably not worth saving.
- Tires. Would never suggest anyone "use" these - other than "FOR DISPLAY ONLY". I have a "period correct" Pirelli (probably one of these old ones) as the spare in the boot of my car, but hope I never have to use it!
- Tank. Once installed, it's never really seen again, so also probably not worth saving.
- Pump. Only because it is (I believe) an earlier water pump, which I've been told by others is becoming scarce, do I think this might be worth rescuing and restoring. I may clean it up and tinker with it a bit myself and see what I find.

No one's looking to retire off of these parts. But since my Dad gave me the car, I thought it would be nice if I were able to send a few dollars back his way.

If you have a moment Howard, please email me at "George.parker2012atcomcast.net".

Thanks again!

George, Been there done that!

First of all, the things you specifically mention here are safety and or reliability parts. OLD wheels and tires, big safety risk!..OLD waterpump, who wants to install it since it sounds old and beat up already. Most people feel better buying/fitting, new critical parts of that nature.

I had 2000- 2001 nat'l champ 120... 100 point car. I went thru the same situation when I finished the restoration.

For other non reliability/safety bits, spread them out, number them, take pics. Post them for sale here and or other sites. People who need specific parts will pretty much know by sight what they are looking for. When they contact you, you have a way to reference parts with them. I have given a lot of parts away to guys if they pay the shipping, all in the spirit of camaraderie.

Best of luck, Howard B
