Greetings. I am pondering the purchase of a 95-97 XJ6. Having owned many cars and enjoy doing my own maintenance, I have never owned a Jag. Is this model reliable? Are there any specifics I should look for in my search? Any major recalls or TSBs?

I ahve owned a xj6 94 now for over 2 years (XJ40) and this has been the most reliable car i have ever owned, the car has now 258000 miles on the clock and still runs as new the only problems i have had is with the alternator and charging circuits which needed a replacement unit and a flickering oil pressure light which made me panic .This turned out to be no more than a faulty sender unit .Hope you get as much pleasure from yours Good Luck

Take your vin number to a dealer. He can track your car and any recalls or TSBs that have been done will be listed and those outstanding will be also. My bride drives a SWB 95 with no sunroof, no memory seats, no garage door opener (that and Topaz was what she wanted) and has been so pleased she will not trade it in for a new Jaguar. There were 3 or 4 recalls for the emmissions that required chip changes and som minor mech. work. There were and I believe still are covered as a federal requirement. The only problem I have seen with these cars is that a lack of servicing on the cooling system causes premature head gasket failure. The tell tail is weeping crystal build-up around the hose joints. The factory clamps are narrow and after a time and miles seeping can occur. My dealer says that well maintained cooling systems do not exibit this. There was a problem with some of the differentals becomming slightly loud and leaking or seeping. Make sure the oil has been changed at the proper times (look in the oil filler hole for build-up). Good luck they were/ are great cars. Ps do not break a headlight---$$$$
