When shutting off my '95 XJS, the electric fan continues to run, which is normal, but it's supposed to eventually shut off. On a few occasions it simply hasn't. This doesn't always happened, but we discovered that this was going on when it eventually ran the battery down. It's happened a few times lately.
Obviuosly there's some kind of faulty sensor or relay. Does anyone know where it's located and how to replace it?
(We don't have a Jag dealer around here.)
Many thanks.

You could also pop the hood latch to help with the cool down also, that is if the vehicle is in a safe area. Make sure you have plenty of coolantb in there also, Art

It's only normal to run on if gthe engine is very hot, where is around here? At this time of year -even in LA- it should not normally come on! I would suspect the thermo switch but get some kind of temprature gauge or pyrometer and see what the eng temp really is. Jaguar affectionado and etc.

I believe this problem is dealt with in the Kirby Palm book available for free for all to down load @ Jaglovers in the "our books section".
I believe it is a relay on the driver side inner front fender. There is also a mod described in there ( that I have done )that re starts the fan if the temp rises again to further help cool the engine and components in tha engine bay.
Good luck, Art
If you don't have to keep it original, flexalite has an after market temperature controller i have used on vehicles for our business. You bolt it down, after making sure you have a good ground connection, supply fused 12v to one side of the fan, the other fan terminal goes to a terminal on the controller. there is a thin copper tube which is inserted into the upper radiator hose. you turn a potentiometer to make the fan come on as soon as you reach slightly higher than normal operating temp. there are terminals for a/c relay (also available from flexalite) and a manual override switch.
all hardware comes with the controller, it took about 20 minutes to install, never had problem with one of these. The whole thing cost $55. including the a/c relay.
