Can anybody identify the tag pictured here? It is thin aluminum and the numbers and figure are embossed. It was in the 69 E-type's glove box when I bought the car 10 years ago. I have no idea what it is. Maybe a tag a rebuilder put on the master cyl or starter?

Best Regards, John

John,
My bad. The tag is for the brake booster. Chris Bron of the Jaguar Association of Greater St. Lewis provided me a picture when I wrote the MY '68 Judges Guide. I'm going to try to upload the picture.

Well, somebody else pointed out to me that the diff tag has something like 46/13 or 44/13 stamped on it for the diff ratio. No way can I get this to come out close. 4258 divided by 111 comes out to 38.36. I'm still stumped.

Thanks Steve. I will play with the math. Given my tach and mph readings I know the car has the standard 3.54 ratio diff.

Since it attached to the diff I won't worry about putting it back on since it won't be judged. So, back in the parts bin it goes. :-) Best Regards, John

John,
I got a magnifying glass, my numbers are "4258/111-12" "G-40 ..", note the two dots and I think a "16" in the trapazoid.

John,
I have one of these tags in my small parts stash and I just went out to get it. I now have it in my hand. The number in the trapaziod on mine appears to be a 16 or 18. The other numbers were stamped on the reverse side and go over the trapazoid obliterating the numbers and making the 16 or 18 hard to read. I can make out a 111-12. The others can't be read. I believe that I took this tag off of my rear differenential (final drive unit) about 1988ish, so please take 18 years of memory into account. From other LBC's that I've worked on, the tag should indicate the gear ratio. Divide the numbers and see if you get one of the ratio's known to have been supplied to your model; you might have to take the reciprocal to get the ratio. My '69 E-type is an automatic.

It is the type of tag that was fitted to many pressure hoses, AC, Steering, Brake, etc. Whether it is for a jag or not ???? Jaguar affectionado and etc.
