I desperately need to find an excellent Jag mechanic around the Memphis TN area or will travel up to 100mi(have enclosed trailer.)
1974 XKE V12 roadster, auto, a/c, jcna concours winner 2002.
Caught fire on asbestos lining above stainless steel muffler-smoke, flames put out immediately. Fire Dept here for 45+ minutes with heat sensor-very hot under console and engine compartment. Short version of story-have been to 2 "supposedly expert" Jag mechanics in Memphis-"no lifts, cannot afford them", dirty shops, bad part of town, etc. Insurance Co needs results-this happened mid-March. Transmission seals leaking badly and water/antifreeze in oil since overheating from fire. I think this KAT has BIG problems and I need her put back to her concours condition so I can enjoy your meets and other events.
Thanks...am new to TN from N.VA and totally lost, but love living here.

A Google search on that number shows it as Stew Jones Restorations in Winsted, CT.

sounds like the engine will have to come out if your tranny is leaking badly, the water in oil (in engine oil or tranny ?) is obviously bad news too. obviously you need to find someone who's familiar with the V12...

check with the local clubs for good shops, nashville maybe your closest ... or even Atlanta, maybe that's somethign Coventry West can handle. 100 or 300 miles is irrelevant at this point, unfortunately.

Louise,

I had my Rolls-Royce worked on by a tremendous mechanic / restorer in Nashville.
His name is JD Damon.
I am very impressed with his work, his honesty, and business practices.
At the end of every week, he sent me a detailed bill with photos to review the status of the car.
He had several MGs, Jaguars, and Rolls-Royces in the shop, and from a friend in that area I understand he is very well respected by the antique car guys.
JD's number is 615-298-9314. I think he might have moved his shop, but the address I have is: 120 40th Avenue North.
Good luck and keep us posted with your kitty's progress.
Mike
