My XK 140 MC has started "fluttering" when it runs. That's the best possible description of its performance. Not the usual smooth crip rev. but has a "flutter. From start to stop it's consistent. Does not strongly affect the running, just drives me CRAZY. I've replaced the; coil/coil- wire, plug wires, plugs, rebuilt the distributor (had it done)w/new points/condenser& Dist cap.....no change in "flutter". Sprayed carb-cleaner under and over the intake man. checking for vaccum leak w/no effect on engine...car "flutters"..help ??? PS: Car was bought in '79 and never been rebuilt - just driven by me...

Thank you for your thoughts. I'm sure it's in there somewhere.

Since my post I've had the following done; rebuit the carbs w/floats, replaced a cracked insolator(gasket) rechecked the timing, cleaned the fuel filter, checked the compression (150 all but one 125). The car is now near right but skips at 3,500 rpms and higher ?

Don,
It would be well to check the float levels, shut-off valves, carb balance and mixtures as well as the air cleaner(s). After that you may need some electronic ignition analysis and possibly a compression check..

Good luck,
Dick
