Hello. I am having trouble removing my Mk II's distributor. I've loosened the collar to the point where it can be freely twisted, but when I pull up on the distributor, it won't budge at all. I must've missed something obvious, but the shop manual doesn't go into much detail, and I can't see anything else external to the distributor that's keeping it in place. Do I remove the collar altogether? (Doubt it.) Anything else I need to do?

Cheers!

Thanks, William. I can twist the clamp, and even able to get a big screwdriver between the clamp and collar on the distributor, and that's not working either. I've seen in other, non-Jag forums that this can be a common problem. My next attempt will include my son's muscles. I'm really hoping, though, I don't have to remove the carburetor in order to get better leverage, which seems to be the biggest problem :-/

It is supposed to lift out when the collar is loose. Just to be sure, remove the screw that holds the collar to the block. At the very least that will allow you to wedge something between the collar and the block and help persuade the distributor to lift out.
