Here we go!?á Another fun thing to do with our cars!?á Every year Classic Motorsports Magazine sponsors a three day racing event at our own Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia just East of Atlanta.?á On Sunday, May 2nd meet-up with the North Georgia Jaguar Club for a fun day at Road Atlanta Racetrack for the annual Historic Sports Car Races.?á This year, Lotus will be the featured marque and the guest of honor will be Peter Brock one of Australia's?á best-known and most successful motor racing drivers.?á?á This is actually a three-day event (details can be found at www.themitty.com) but we've picked Sunday as the races that day will be more fun to watch for our group.?á The real highlight for all of us is to actually get on the track with our cars and drive several laps on this world-class Formula One race track.?á We won't be racing or anything like that but it's the next best thing to it and it doesn't matter what kind of car you have.

First, we'll all meet up at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant located right on I-85 at the Hwy 53 intersection.?á You can either take I-85 to exit 129 (Hwy 53) or I-985 to exit 16 (Oakwood, Hwy 53) and travel south on Hwy 53, past Road Atlanta, to the Restaurant.?á Plan on being there before 9:30.?á At that time we'll all drive together about 6 miles to Road Atlanta. Directions to the track are at www.roadatlanta.com

You will need to purchase tickets with infield access.?á You can either purchase them at the gate ($35.00) when you arrive or on-line at www.themitty.com ($30.00).?á If you can't meet us at the Cracker Barrel then just come to the track, purchase your ticket and drive in.?á Once past the ticket area, continue up the hill to the right and turn left over the Yamaha overpass.?á Drive several hundred yards and you should see the Classic Motorsports tent on the left.?á They will have a reserved parking area for us.?á You will then need to go to track registration and complete a waiver form to allow track access for your car.?á The Classic Motorsports guys will direct you where to go.?á I understand we'll be given a time for our parade laps.?á Other than that you'll be free to walk around the paddock area, look at the race cars, perhaps meet Peter Brock, and visit any of the vendor booths.?á Food and drinks will be available or you can bring your own.

Bring lawn chairs and pick a spot to watch the car races.?á There will be two featured races on Sunday.?á First will be the Formula 5000 group which are 80's era Formula One type cars except with big block American engines.?á The second will be the Concours d'LeMons - we love classics in all shapes and sizes, so they wanted to find a way for some of the orphaned and unknown to enjoy the spotlight.?á This event promises to be a light-hearted highlight of the weekend for lovers of underappreciated classics.

So, clean the winter dust off the Jag, put on your Italian racing shoes, scarf and helmet and MEET US AT THE MITTY!
