I recently helped a friend completely rebuild his front suspension. We removed the unit; replaced all bushings with poly; new wheel bearings; new tie-rods, etc. However, we did not mess with the power steering unit on the crossmember at all, nor the pump mounted to the engine.
After assembling the unit, fluid was added to the power steering reservoir. And as expected, fluid was pulled into the unit and we kept topping it off as necessary. However, the power steering still not working. Clearly, there is air trapped somewhere in the system, but we don't have a proper Jaguar service manual for the Mark 2 (1967 340). I have reprimanded my friend endlessly about this as we are using what amounts to one of those "Chilton" type books, and it says nothing about how to bleed the power steering unit.
So my question is this: Does anyone know the proper way to bleed the PS unit, or, can someone with a proper, detailed manual at least advise me that this procedure IS covered in the Jaguar Service manual? I have no problem advising my friend to get one.
Many thanks for your advice.
