Hi all,

I've recently moved to Miami, and have been looking for something comfortable for the family - naturally the value for money led me to what can only be described as the most beautifully upkept car I have ever seen. It has a full service history, and one owner for the first 10 years. It's black with cream, so it's easy to spot that it's NEVER been hurt. As I said, it's had a fully documented service history.

There is only one problem. I took the car for a drive about 15 minutes ago, and the current owner (a well turned out 30 something year old guy) has just bought a new Merc, and doesn't use the Jag anymore. He only bought it in November, and it's been sitting unused in his drive - he described it as an "impulse buy" - I believe him. This is the problem - the Check Engine Light was on. He said it first appeared a few weeks ago.

I work on my own cars a lot, but am TOTALLY unfamiliar with the Jag. I opened the hood, and naturally, the motor looked like it was fresh from the showroom.

My question (finally!) is should I be concerned about the light, or could it be a sensor or check valve issue? Is this common for this car?

thanks in advance for any help!

Jason

Jason. Welcome to owning a jaguar. Get used to lights coming on!
The check engine light is known for appearing for reasons unknown. ItÔÇÖs a 95 modal you say, so to get rid of it you will need to disconnect the battery for five minutes. This should get rid of the light. With the light out of the way, because this car has been standing for a while, what with the owner settling for some merc, it could properly do with a bit of a run on the freeway.
Let the motor warm up to normal operating temp before setting off. If the light comes on again, it should bring with it a code. Press the vcm button to retrieve this, Wright it down and come back with it. IÔÇÖll see what it means and let you know what to do next.
Hope that helps.
