We own a 1996 Jaguar XJ6 (or some refer to the car as an X300, but I have no clue why) that has 220,000 KM. Overall it runs well, but when the engine starts, there is a rattling sound that is only a second or two in duration. I have been told that this was the starter and then I was told this noise was the timing chain guide (is this a tensioner?)making this noise. Once the oil pressure is up - which happens in seconds - the engine purrs nicely. Any advice on diagnosing and remedying the rattling noise?
We really like this car, but are growing weary of the ongoing repairs. Jaguar World magazine earlier this year did a feature on these cars and stated that they are desirable as collector cars. We are planning to sell the car July 2010 but are uncertain of an asking price. Does anyone have advice on resale pricing of these cars? Thank you in advance for your assistance.
