I am refinishing the leather on the dash of my 70 E-type. Because the leather was hard and cracked in a couple of places I used lacquer thinner and sandpaper to remove the color coating and applied a leather conditioner. This worked fine but now the areas where I used sandpaper are smooth whereas the rest of the dash is in the original leather grain finish. I planned to use a crack filler in the cracks and a black leather dye to finish the whole dash.
Anybody know how to restore the origninal grain finish or to create a grain finish on smooth leather?

Cliff----------do not know how to tell you this except if there is leather on the dash of your car (by dash I assume you mean the facia and top pad then it is wrong. Unless you have a document from Jaguar stating that your car was ordered special with leather you are waisting time and $$$. Both parts were a plastic compound nd the top pad is available in padded form from all large suppliers. The facia is tougher and if damaged I would suggest replacing it with a good used part or parts. Good luck and if the car was ordered with leather please share documents with the forum. The only leather I have seen for that area of the car was the optional key fobs and that is on the steering collum of your car.
