Does anyone know where I can buy the book or give me the name of someone willing to sell me one? I have accessed it but don't want to print it due to the cost of computer ink. I estimate it would take about $150 in ink!
I'm getting ready to upgrade my XJSC, which runs fine but has 103,000 miles on it and want to prevent problems when I get back into club activities.

I have the Marelli igintion and so far so good (knock on wood veneer). The other day I also bought a fire extinguisher and put in the back which seemed a reasonable precaution. Is such a fire always an issue of bad maintenance?
Engine fires appear to be a major danger, but I do not recall seeing any big warning labels plastered all over the engine bay or safety devices created to address it.

Browse the www for Jaguar salvage yards and you'll get an idea of how many V12s burned down.
Until the Marelli ignition system was introduced (mid-89 model year) the primary cause was leaking fuel hoses....so few owners bothering to have them changed every few years.
With Marelli ignition the fuel hose issue remained and a new problem surfaced: ignition failure of one bank of cylinders allowing raw fuel to accumulate in the cat converters. As a result the converters overheat to cherry red and everything within about a two foot radius...or more... burns to a crisp.
Either scenario is 100% avoidable by simply maintaining the car.....

Fires were very common on the early V12 fuel injetion cars. Jaguar then switched to a one piece fuel rail thereby eliminating all of those perishable hoses. As for the E Types, when were they ever a fire prone? Jaguar affectionado and etc.

Has anyone had an XJ-S engine fire as the esteemed author predicts is inevitable?
I have only heard of such things happening to XKE(s).

David could be right. some of the small inkjet printers contain a very small amount of ink. at our office, we choose our printers the same way you choose your cars. as a result, i can print the whole thing for under $.01/page. (some of the lexmark inkjets work out to about $.15/page)
David, i'll print tonight, and send out tomorrow.

it's about 700+ pages... no way that shoudl use up more than one BW inkjet cartridge depending on how fine the fonts and graphics are... no way !
you could take the file to kinkos, but much cheaper to DIY.
