OWN76 XJ12C and 84 XJSWhat would you advise? Recent concours..received a totaldeduction of 65.9 for my engine compartment, including 2.4 for my ultima battery as non-authentic and was not asked to initial. (I thought non-original batteries were acceptable)
I have been competing for about 15 years and this score is so far of that I feel the need to COMPLAIN!!
Previous concours deductions for engine compartment have been 1.5, 1.0, 11 ( ithink the judge was scca oriented)
0.7,0.4,2.5, 6.8 (no hood liner and they dont exist and are not available per
Brit. motors) 6.2,1.1 , 12 (1996) etc.
I have spent countless hours improving my12c engine and its much improved over that 12.0 in 1996.What do you recommend?
would a formal complaint do any good?
Asit stands, I am wiped out for further competition this year. The season is a LOSS (sort of like the SF Giants)
Further., I tend to take it personally
which I shoulldnt..but its a GROSS
GRATUITOUS INSULT !! The car was my xj12c P.S. the inconsistency in judging
is what causes some to just quit
concours competition.

File a formal protest. In the very least, non authentic deductions that are not initialed should be disallowed IMHO, but initialling a deduction is not an agreement to accept the deduction, you are still free to use the protest system, and should do so if you feel that you were not fairly treated.

You dont mention what the bulk of the deducts were, but if its cleanliness etc you are unlikely to get anywhere with protesting, because no offcial guide exists to govern cleanliness deducts, a judge can take off the min or the max for any defect found, and you will find some who take off tenths and some who take off whole points, and though I disagree with the latter, there is nothing in print to say they are wrong as of this moment.
