Is there any interest in finding someone who will develop a way to rebuild the Throttle Body on XK-8 cars?

BBA-Reman of Taunton, Massachusetts, who by the way has an excellent reputation for rebuilds of auto electronics - ECMs, etc.- has said they will not rebuild the vaccuum assisted types that are found on some of the XK-8 cars.

I have just replaced mine for the second time - $1400.00 or so. I would think that the rebuild/repair would include the replacement of some $3.00 magic device as the rest of the Throttle Body is pretty much conventional mechnanical/vaccuum operartion and should be easy to identify....

As these expensive parts are evidently one of Jaguar's gremlins, I would think that the club would be doing a great service to members and the industry if they were to take this project on. It involves researching the correct outputs, etc. and determining a source for replacement electronics or rebuilding services.

I will be happy to ship the defective one to anyone who would be willing and able to take this project on.

Is there enough interest? What do other XK-8 owners think? If you haven't replaced yours yet - hang in there, it is probably in your car's future!

The first one caused an unpredictable shut down at high speed - 70-80 mph. It idi this several times, including once in the left hand lane on Interstate 95 in Provdenece, R.I.... No Power Steering,, limited vaccuum for the brakes! . pretty ugly when the only fix is to shut off the key, causing the steeering to lock, and doing a restart. The restarts always worked.

After several trips to the dealer and repeated demials, the dealer got Jaguar America to admit there was a problem and supplied the part at no cost. (The Car was beyond the warranty period)

This second time, in May 2013, we got the dreaded "multiple false message disease", and the car would only start and run very roughly. The Dealer diagnosed it to be a bad throttle body, and offered to replace it for about $1800. We tried to get BBA-Reman to rebuild the existing, but after the TB went to Taunton, it was determeined that the particular type of TB was not one they could do....
Hence, my original post.
