Hi everyone- Just to wrap things up on this. I did purchase the car and did track down the original owners family and spoke with them. The car was ordered in Italy and was delivered to them in New York, as were others I have seen. Doesn't really explain why Coventry created a registration number. Does anyone know which Jaguar dealer was distributing these back then? Do they still exist? There is the now the question of registering the car in CA and if I can produce any documentation that the car was registered in the US, it would simplify the registration process. DMV orgs purge their entire record DB every 10 years from what I have been told.
