The air conditioner (factory air) on my 1970 Series II FHC worked fine last summer until I hit a rather jarring bump in the road. The bump caused the compressor clutch to disengage (I think). Several minutes later I turned the unit back on and it worked fine until the next large bump (small bumps don't seem to affect it).

I've checked the connections and all seems to be well. Other than a loose wire or bad connection is there anything else that would cause the compressor clutch to disengage upon hitting a bump?

It is made with the coil. If there is a break you will need a new coil--or de-pot the one you have and rewind it. If yours is broken contact me off list.

George, how does the wire attach to the coil? Is it a plug-in type connection? The connection is buried so far underneath I can't see clearly how the wire connects.

Dennis I think I would put a meter on the clutch feed wire. They have a tendency to become very brittle over time and crack just as the wire enters the magnetic coil of the clutch.
