I have found that the intake manifold on my 1970 E-Type, Series 2 has butterfly valves immediately after the carbs. I don't see why these are necessary and wonder if the engine would operate better without these obstructions in the way. I imagine they are related to emissions control? Thanks for any help.

I removed the manifold butterfly's from my '68 E-type and it gave me much better throttle response without them. I just removed the two screws that attach each buttlerfly to the shaft and pulled them out of the slot in the shaft leaving evrything else intact. This way I could easlity re-install them if ever needed but since it has been running great this way for several years I doubt that will ever happen.
