I will be putting my 85 XJS on the road in the next two weeks (god willing). So I talked to the insurance about what coverage to get. Seems the only real option I have is liability. They are telling me that the availability of parts or lack there of will make this car a total loss in the event of a "mishap".

So I am wondering what type of coverage do you carry on your XJS?

The Gatekeeper

I have recently purchased a 2000 VandenPlas from a dealer in Des Moines, IA. All I had to do was to call my American Family Insurance agent, and I got a binder over the phone. My insurance cards arrived in about three days. I have comprehensive coverage with $100.00 deductible, $250.00 collision deductible, un-insured and under-insured motorists coverage for a little over $600.00 each six months.

If you shop for insurance the way you shopped for your Jag, I'm sure that you'll find a reputable company that will provide the coverage you're looking for.

Good luck...

Bill,

If you have an agreed value for the car, let say $ 12,000.00 and the car is totalled after a deer incident then you will pocket $ 12,000.00 and be on your merry way to find another Jaguar. Here in South Florida we have the snow birds to deal with and sometimes I wonder if the deers are better after all

Michel,

I may have gotten your E-mail, but I have been getting a lot of spam as of late and deleting any E-mail I don't recognize, sorry.

My insurance will give me a coverage with an agreed value also. My concern is not so much with the car being totaled, but something below that. You see, I live way out in the country and I am concerned with the car being attacked by deer one night. If a deer attacks me and does damage, to say the front end, the insurance will total the car because they will not be able to find some of the damaged parts(fender, grill, headlight assembly, etc).

The person I was speeking to about the coverage told me a story about a client she had not too long ago. He had an old Lincoln, mint condition, and he had full coverage on it. One day a deer ran into the quater panel and did damage to the car. She did not go into detail about the damage but they could not find parts to fix the car and had to total it. He bought the car back, got the parts, and fixed it, but he went through hell and back getting the title back to normal so he could put the car back on the road.

What this man had to go through is what I worry about with the Jag.

I do not know if you got my email about Hagerty insurance, they insure cars 20 years and older, at an agreed value, I have two cars insured with then at the agreed value of $ 85,000.00 and i am paying around $ 700.00 a year for both.

I am sure there are tons of aftermarket parts around, used parts are also used sometimes to repair more cost effectively if need be.Utter tripe if you ask me, besides even if the car is not repairable you still need to be compensated for your loss, third party coverage will not afford this protection if the incident is your fault, Art
