I read somewhere about a DIY replacement for the instrument voltage regulator in the sII using Radio Shack parts. Can anyone provide a link or a wiring diagram?

Go to RS, and buy and LM317 voltage regulator. It will be in one of the small parts drawers. The schematic will probably be printed on the back of the pack. Otherwise, drop me a line and I'll send you a drawing.
You'll also need two resistors: a 470 ohm and a 3.3K ohm will do.
