Hello,
I am in the early stages of restoring the brakes on my '61 3.4 MOD. Unfortunately, the front brakes are different from the ones described in the various shop manuals I have at hand. Before I order any parts for rebuilding the brakes, I was wondering if someone could help in identifying them. The main difference seems to be that the outside caliper cylinder is not removable. The manuals show both the outside AND insider cylinders to be removable.
I have attached a photo, also available at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18543910/front_driver-side_brake.JPG. Let me know if another photo is required.
Cheers!

Looks like the connecting steel pipe goes into the same point the hose enters. What is that big curved piece over the brake pads? Anti-rattle spring?
The round raised area dead centre on the exposed side may give a clue...casting number or some such.

Identifying Mk II Front Brakes
Back brakes are different, but appear to be 'standard' (see http://dl.dropbox.com/u/18543910/rear_driver-side_brake.JPG). Thanks for the information, Michael.

Identifying Mk II Front Brakes
Hi Rick,
I have a '59 MK1 and a '61 MK2 and I have never seen any brake caliper like the one you show. Are the rears like that? Jaguar used a round pad on the early discs and a square "Quick Change" pad on the later ones, but the pistons were always removable. Hopefully someone else can identify what car your brakes came from. Perhaps Volvo?
Rick, everything looks to be in the usual place. The brake caliper itself appears to be an early 'S' type with one fixed cylinder and one removable cylinder operating on a non ventilated disk.
