: I was hoping Houston would have a rally since i'm planning on stopping
: by their concours on the way to San Antonio for the Texas 1000, but
: they don't either... definitely need to organize it ourselves...
Pascal: I would venture a guess that our (JC Houston) problem with slaloms is the same as everyone else's, that being the lack of JCNA participants. Our last official slalom, held April 7th in conjunction with an all-British car show, had only two Jaguars and about 15 MG's, Triumphs, and other marques. But this was better than last year when we had zero Jaguars. Texas Mike Cook and I have just about given up on promoting and holding the JCNA slaloms. It seems that neither those with drivers or show cars want to "subject" their car to that kind of treatment. The high spot was watching David Duthu's XK-120 factory racer (a prior nat. champ car) run the course. David drove with broken ribs and still managed to turn in the lowest time (of all cars) that day. It was awesome! I expect to be doing some slaloms with my E-Type after a year or two of concours campaign, for it's the only way to really get a sense of the car's handling ability. Yes, I'll have a crummy set of tires and wheels for running the slalom course.
If you're planning to attend the Houston concours on November 3rd at Moody Gardens Resort in Galveston, give me your address off list and I'll make sure you get a concours packet. Who knows, maybe Mike and I can be persuaded to set up the cones and take your lap times. There is plenty of room for doing so at Moody Gardens. (http://www.moodygardens.com/attractions.html)
What is the Texas 1000 and why haven't I heard about it?
