An in the process of putting together a 65 e type from 400 parts. I have tried to start the engine but the starter gear rides over the top of the flywheel gear when the starter is engaged. The sloinoid drives the starter gear back into position over the flywheel as it should but it rides too high over the gears of the flywheel. it's a new reduction gear starter & a new aluminum flywheel. was I sold the wrong bell housing ? could it be a flywheel from a 3.8 instead of a 4.2 ?
I'm new & this is my first post. I hope i have followed all the rules . Please advise if I haven't.
