1989 XJ6. My wife turned the heater on and said she smelled something like burning plastic. Now there is no heat. What melted? where should I start?

I have an 1985 so it is probably different (mine = no seperate heat, all goes through a climate control). Does your blower work? If no, let's ensure it doesn't work in any position (defrost through heater) and start at the blower. Is it getting power?
