Hi Im starting to restore my 76 xjs and I was wondering if anybody knows what the heat shields are made of that that line the engine bay around the exhaust

pretty sure it is asbestos based.......... I got that kinda stuff in my lungs when I 1st started working...............about 50 yrs ago.......... get something else.............luckily I have not been a smoker or I would be dead now, so they tell me..........

I do not know, but there is a ,material called "Peel & Seal" which I use for heat/soundproofing, it can be purchased at good building supply stores such as Lowes. It is excellent.
