I just purchased a 1995 XJS 2+2 convertible, which overall I am pleased with, however, it seems to me it may have a problem. Even with the top down, there seems to be a lot of heat coming from the face level air vents, and what concerns me the most is it seems it may be exhaust fumes entering the interior. Especiallly with the top up, I get burning eyes and get "groggy", and a headache after leaving the vehicle. Does anyone know if this is possible? Could it be a leak in the exhaust pipe or muffler? The interior gets pretty warm, and it is a concern. Maybe this is normal for an XJS (this is my first). I cant keep driving it when it makes me ill to drive. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

Not sure when they stopped doing this, but on the 95 their straight. Unless someone modified the exhaust system of course. :o)

the earlier cars all had slight but noticeable bends in the tail pipes, this was apparently to stop gass's getting into the cabin area......not sure about the later cars Art

Art, what special bend are are you referring to? The post is referring to a 95 XJS. The exhaust tips come straight out. Just curious. Keith

make sure also that the tail pipes extend at least as far back, or perhaps a little farther than the rear bumper, also they have a special bend in them to get the gas's away from the car..Art

That is NOT normal for any car. It sounds like you may be suffering from Carbon Monoxide Illness from exhaust fumes in the cockpit. I suggest you have your complete exhaust system checked for leaks, especially under the hood.
