I have a Grey 89 XJS. I bought it about two weeks ago. It needs some work. The main issue that we are having is finding a fuel tank. The one in the car leaks. Anyone know where I can get a tank? Every site i go to says "Item out of stock" Little help please.

Richard, you have to take the car to a real mechanic, the tank has to come out and it is perfectly repairable, what city are you in? there are a number of shops who repair gas tanks, call your nearest radiator repair shop and ask them. Jaguar affectionado and etc.

Rich,

If you have not already done so, you should download a copy of Kirby Palm's "Experience In A Book Help for the Jaguar XJ-S Owner" from http://www.jag-lovers.org/xj-s/book/ It is a very large file but a very useful resource. I will e-mail an excerpt off-line so you can see beforehand.

The fummes are so bad you can't sit in the car for more than a few minutes.
My shop doesn't want to touch it. Is it something that is eassy to fix? Does the tank have to come out of the car?

years ago i had the tank done on my '59 mga. it was done because the coating in the tank was breaking down, making it's way through fuel filters, and causing the su's to malfunction when the engine was hot. (i got very good at rebuilding the carbs because of this). i was very happy with the results. wouldn't hesitate to have a reputable shop do the tank. at the time the technology was a rubberized coating on the inside of the tank, i believe. Hello, I recall that there was a factory problem with some XJS tanks back then, a rivet came loose causing serious 'fumes" We removed and repaired them with no problem Jaguar affectionado and etc.

I spoke to the shop that has my car and they keep telling me that they have had problems with that. I guess most of them come back and they still leak. But thanks

Rich,

I had the same problem with my Stag. Depending on overall condition of the tank, you may be able to take the unit to a local radiator shop. They will be able to clean it out, getting rid of any interior debris and "gunk". Once cleaned they can line the inside and outside, resulting in a lifetime guarantee.

Hope this helps.
