I just recently bought a 1993 XJ6 Vanden Plas. The day after I bought it it wouldn't start approximately 200 miles from my home. I had a mechanic replace the starter but the fuel pump wouldn't kick on. So he undid the straps on the gas tank and check the wires. While moving the gas tank, it was rusted and sprang a leak. Still could not get the fuel pump to work except by rigging an old relay and sticking something in the relay to force the contact and the fuel pump worked. When I got the car home I replaced the gas tank and figured that I should just go ahead and replace the fuel pump which I did. Put everything back together and it worked fine, for 24 hours. Then I had a transmission issue which was fixed with a relay change. Now the car is acting the same way it did when I broke down the only difference is that I have a new starter and a new fuel pump. Luckily I still have the make shift relay so I can drive the car. If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated.
