This sort of applies to our discussion of authenticity and would be one of those instances where there is leeway or none at all. On the 4.2 emblem found on the boot lid of my Series 1 OTS, the metal "skin" inside the triangular shape of the 4 was not fully removed. Yes the 4 still has depth, but the 1/16th of an inch of flashing on the backside was never removed...only a pinprick of light can be seen through it. It is the original emblem...on the backside are the letters JF and the part number BD26765.
So if a judge questions this, my only defense is that it's the original emblem. So should I buy a repro to replace the original (sacrilege!), or should authenticity take precedence? Will a new authenticity guide allow for factory defects?
