New member and Jag owner (2004 XJR). Purchased 1 year ago with about 43,000 miles. Current mileage 47,000.

I recently had a problem with my headlights going off and on but hasn't recurred and mechanic can't duplicate. Got to thinking about buying an extended warranty, although I normally don't think that is a good investment -- yet maybe it might be so on a 10 year old Jag. This vehicle was a single owner and well maintained (looks like it is almost brand new) and even though I purchased it from a dealer, I personally know the previous owner.

As a retired Air Force guy, I can purchase an extended warranty through USAA, a very reputable company. The warranty would actually come from a company called Assurant Solutions. The warranty is offered as long as the vehicle is no more than 10 years old and has less than 115,000 miles.

Cost is a follows:

1 years/12,000 miles $1462
2 years/24,000 miles $2196
3 years/36,000 miles $3500
4 years/48,000 miles $5595

Any comments, thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks -- Ben

Ben--I have a 2004 XJR that I purchased new. It has been a great car--very reliable and no major problems. It has 89K miles on it. I've had a transmission leak at 78K, a radiator hose leak at 83K. brakes at 78K (expected, normal). I am newly retired and put less than 5K on it per year and take it off the road in the winter. It still looks and runs great. I hope to drive it for many years to come. It looks like you don't put many miles on it per year. I'm with William. I'd keep it well-maintained and not go for the extended warrantee.

Ben, I would chance it , the cars have a good reputation and the main components Engine, would cost 10 to 14 thousand to replace and the tranny around 45 hundred. Many of the smaller items are not covered and the and the insurers are hard to deal with , Save your money and look after the car.
