I am original owner of a 64"E" coupe with a 3.77 rear end ratio. This car was very fast. At the high speed the car flattens out and sort of hesitates and ocassionally coughs. I have checked / replaced all the things you can think of. Replaced a new SU fuel pump etc.The distributor is original, todate I have not replaced it, however I obtained a new Petronix complete distributor ready for installation. The C.R ratio is about 155 psi in all 6 cylinders.
Please any ideas.

Edward, the complete air filter system must be installed, or at high speeds you will have the problem you describe because of turbulance in the carbs.

Like Mr. Brady says, it's probably timing. Make sure the rubber boot at the vacuum advance on the dist. is making a good seal. I would probably start with a fresh set of plugs too, couldn't hurt.

THANK YOU FELLOWS FOR RESPONDING. I HAVE REMOVED THE AIR FILTER COMPLETELY. THE CARBS ARE OPEN. INTERESTING,. I BELIEVE THE PLUGS ARE GAPPED AT .025.

Curtis you are correct but perhaps we need to ask what type of air filter he has.

Hi Edward
Are your plugs gapped to 0.025"? Is your air filter completely installed?
good luck

Edward is so correct--I have "fixed" many cars by simply removing "Boy Racer" air filters and replacing them with the stock system.
