Thanks much to Bill and David . I will proceed with new confidence to clean the contacts of the fuses (all while I'm at it) . I've had an old English sports car before , but it was only 15 years old not 40 like this one. I should have thought of the fuse contacts as one I pulled has a very rusty holder on one end.. I will pick up the CRC tomorrow and make an afternoon/evening of the job.
