Am working on distributor (still in the car) and want to clean the junk off the shaft. My advance is partially stuck--not frozen, just not snapping back easily. How far down do I need to take things off in order to get to the area where the gunk is, and how do I clean the gunk off?> just use a solvent? then I understand it is best to use some synthetic motor oil (what weight?) and oil the shaft---where exactly? Also some say there should be a felt under the rotor-- I have none, but would like to add one. Can I use a battery felt, or is there a certain one to buy? Then it's best to soak this felt with synthetic oil and mount the felt where?--right under the rotor?
