Yesterday, between storms, I took the MK2 out to visit the daughter and grand daughter.
Noticed power was down a bit. Hmm.
And it got worse.
Final hill coming home, usually pull it in third, BARELY made it in second (at 20MPH).
Went through the basics....dwell at 37 (35 + or - 2), oil clean in air filter, changed the fuel filter. Spark okay....not missing, just no power, a roar in the air cleaner at WOT.
Knew the carbs needed to be balanced...so dug out the UniSyn, held throttle up, set the ball on #1, moved to #2.....ball on the bottom.
Reset the ball on #1 to top, checked #2, nothing.
I wanted to make sure we had similar draw at part throttle......I had some "nibble", so what's going on.
Looked closely...clamp had come adrift at the rear carb for the shaft between carbs. I drove home on three cylinders.
No idea you could do that with a Jag...found out!
You have no idea how little power three cylinders develop on a 2.4......I was thinking Briggs.
