Guys,

I tried a search on the forum but could not find the answers to my question.

My particulars: 1971 4.2 Chassis # P2R14751 Gearbox # KE16785

I found the following information in all of my books Diff & Trans oil Castrol Hypoy C 90. Is that available and recommended?

Which oil type or additive is required to address the "Traction Lock" feature?

As always Thanks in Advance for your help!

Phil

If you go with a multigrade synthetic, it usually has the additive built in. It will say something to the effect of "for Limited slip differentials". However, do be aware that there have been some issues with the synthetic lube going through the leather seals more than later model neophrene. Your car originally had leather seals and if it still does, you might develop some leaks you did not have before. The additive as listed in other posts is only necessary if you have a growling on sharp turns. That is the only time the clutches turn agaisnt each other and the only thing the additive effects.

George, I just got under the car and found the following on the diff: A Tag with the rear Ratio 46/13 ( or a 3.54). I also found the following numbers stamped on the case beside the bottom bolt G 70 C (punched above this number) 10213.

Did not find a Power Lock tag.?.?

Again, Thanks

Well George, I don't know why I posted the gearbox number either??????

Follow-up, if it has Power Lock do I need an additive like domestic cars?

Thanks, Phil

Phil believe it or not but the Wally-Mart stocks it! Guess that is where the E -Type guys shop! Not sure why you posted the gear box number---your diff should have a P/L tag on the rear cover bolts denoting Power Lock.
