Just a question to post as I have been reading on other venues about the finish of the dashpot dampers. My car is right in between the brass and plastic era and since there is not a definitive vin#, I chose to go with the brass. I have been reading that they should have a silver colored plated finish, probably Cadmiun or zinc but not polished brass. While I not dissagreeing whether this is correct, would points be taken off in a show for the brass finish. As mentioned, my car could go either way and I could always put the plastic ones back on but they sure don't look as nice. The last show I entered, there was a question about mine being correct as I had the plastic ones on so I researched it and bought a set of brass ones. Even at that, there were no points taken off as no one could come up with the facts.

Dick, You are of course correct that at this point in time the exact engine # of when the change from the plated brass caps to plastic is unknown. About the best information that we have is from Haddocks research which found that engine #R3653-9 had the brass caps, contact date 3-76, and that engine #R8910-9, no contact date listed, had the plastic caps. This leaves a pretty huge gap that it would be hard to postively say which is the correct cap. However there are only two possible correct caps and as you know a polished brass cap is not one of them and points should be deducted if it is used.
We're going to be down your way about the middle of next week and would it be possible to stop by your place of business and met you? If so please contact me direct with directions today of tomorrow.
Thanks Bob Jag of Mi.
