Tamer;
I have a 1970 2+2.I am not familiar with other years but some things may be the same or similar, so here goes.
You do not have to remove the door. The bonnet latch is in the 'A post', remove it and then remove the vinyl trim that wraps around the 'A post' and goes forward into the foot well. Once done you will see the wire that leads to the switch activated by the door. The switch should be removable from the Hinge pillar. On my car the switch is attached to the hinge itself. Since my car is a different year then yours this info may be worth what you paid for it, nothing! I do hope it helps though.
Something else that may help wpuld be the call George Camp at the JCNA and he is quite knowledgeable about the cars. Ask him what books would help you the most. JCNA sell them at a discount to members.

Regards, Joel.
