I have just assembled the engine for my early E-Type and I read that the cylinder head should be the pumpkin orange color that is on my XK150S'head. Is this true? The E-types head # is 7E1017-9. The car was the 14th 4.2 built (1E10014) Of course I have already painted it gold.

On another matter, what is the correct color of the suspension parts?

From my research I have found that there is both an ocher and a pumpkin on the early Es. This is before the Gold heads came to be the standard.

Does anyone know why there were the two different early colors and where the split is for when the ocher was used and the pumpkin was used.

Dave, send me an email privately and I will put you in touch with the owner of 008. Perhaps he can help you with the suspension colors. 003 and 006 have a number of different things not shared by 008 and later.

Dave,
It Is true that your head should be pumpkin, rather than gold. Contact classicjaguar.com for the pumpkin paint. I have 875006 and I used their paint on my head. Not sure about the suspension parts. Mine has about 10 unique features that even 008 doesn't have.
