Wicker,
All plugs are right hand, no tricks here.
If you are a gambler use a big piece of pipe on the hex key or a big impact wrench. If the plug comes out you win!! If the plug does not come out you loose!! You will round off the hex inside the plug and then you must drill the plug out. It takes a great deal of care and time to drill out a plug without damaging the crank. No fun!! I was once a gambler but not any more.
The best way I have found is to grind the prick marks out using a thin cutoff wheel on a Dremel tool. Do most of your grinding on the plug not the crank. Then heat the plug to almost red hot using a oxy-fuel torch. A propane torch is not hot enough. Remember, heat the plug, not the crank! When the plug is very hot remove the heat and squirt engine oil around the plug threads. Quickly put the hex key in the plug and pull! Use a pipe on the hex key for leverage if necessary but do not strip the hex!!
The hardest part is grinding the prick marks out. It is necessary step as the crankshaft material is much harder than the plug and sometimes deforms the plug to the point that it seizes. I have seen people use a very small drill of about 1/16 dia. and drill the prick marks just deep enough to remove them. I would be afraid of breaking a drill.
It is very tempting to just leave the plus in. They must come out! You will not believe all the crud behind them.
Good Luck!
