Finally got the fuel tank + fuel pump in, so was able to fire it up the Mk II for the first time in 2 years. Not surprisingly, it didn't run well, but the immediate are of concern was that the cooling fan was in contact with the bottom of the fan shroud. Didn't notice that 2 years ago, so I was just wondering what could have caused that to happen.

The quick fix will be to trim off enough from the bottom portion of the fan shroud, won't take much. Still, it would be nice to know why there is contact in the first place. I was worried that perhaps the frame was soft enough that the engine might have sagged, but I used a jack to apply some pressure underneath the engine, and there was no change in clearance (whew). FYI, there is over a finger's width of clearance at the TOP of the fan shroud.

Anything obvious I might have missed?

Cheers!

Quite certain about the no-contact (engine ran fine while it was still at the previous owner's garage). Compressed engine mounts makes sense, but I would think that pushing up on the engine would then result in at least a bit of play. Admittedly, I didn't apply the pressure for very long. Thanks for the suggestion, George.

Rick are you saying that prior there was no contact? If so and nothing else has changed then look at the motor mounts.
